Course Overview
The 2011 Advanced Rhinology Concepts continuing medical education course focuses on the comprehensive medical and surgical management of diseases of the nose and paranasal sinuses. Specific topics include the diagnosis, pathophysiology and medical treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis, sinonasal polyposis and allergic rhinitis. The course will feature sessions on contemporary frontal sinus surgical techniques and the latest advances in fungal rhinosinusitis. The course will also focus on other important rhinologic issues, including postoperative care and management strategies for the general otolaryngologist. Advanced technology, including image-guided surgery and innovative techniques in management of sinonasal neoplasia, will also be featured.
The program will also include panel discussions of difficult cases and controversies in rhinology. Course participants are encouraged to bring digital images (CT & MRI scans) for discussion.
A hands-on laboratory session, featuring endoscopic surgical and video equipment, image-guidance technology, powered instrumentation and cadaveric specimens, will be available.

UTHealth Otorhinolaryngology
The Department of Otorhinolaryngology focuses on the care of patients with complex diseases and disorders of the ears, nose and throat and the head and neck region. The Department’s physicians, residents, fellows and clinical personnel share the common mission of excellence in patient care through the compassionate and innovative application of state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment modalities. The Department has created the Texas Sinus Institute, a comprehensive program that encompasses both basic science research as well as advanced treatments for sinonasal disorders. TSI physicians, recognized both nationally and internationally for their expertise, offer consultative services for patients and their physicians in the greater Houston area and beyond. In addition, the Department has established the Texas Skull Base Physicians, a joint program with the Mischer Neuroscience Institute. TSBP’s emphasis is on minimally invasive approaches to the skull base, and thus TSBP offers an integrated platform for novel solutions to important clinical challenges.
